This is rich. I'm going to use “super-critical carbon dioxide energy conversion turbine" next time someone from New York City asks about the scrap wood stove in my shop. Thats all this is, a shop stove with some waste heat recovery. The innovation isn't the waste heat recovery, its the fuel source; grown locally, harvested locally, supporting rural economies, for generations. It doesnt need to be more complicated than that.

The LCR290 project builds on Fraunhofer ISE’s earlier LC150 project, in which the team developed a 12.85kW (3.7TR) heat pump with 124g (4.4oz) of propane. This heat pump is designed for single-family housing. Manufacturers participating in the project included Viessmann, Bosch, Vaillant Group and Stiebel Eltron. The project demonstrated that it was possible to achieve a propane charge/heating capacity of 9.6g/kW (1.2oz/TR). According to Fraunhofer ISE, commercially available heat pumps typically use about 60g/kW (7.6oz/TR) of propane.

✨ Highlights from Heat Pump Case Studies: 💠 Azam Thatte, Ph.D, Chief Scientist at Energy Recovery, Inc., "PXG 1300 is able to lift 25% of the mass flow rate to the highest system pressure to provide up to 30% in compression energy saving at 40°C."💠 Ebbe Nørgaard, Sales Chief – District heating at FENAGY A/S “Fenagy’s Heat Pumps are balancing an electrical grid today, and #naturalrefrigerants, big thermal storage tanks, are the future of district heating networks. We should always look at the glass ball mirroring rather than just looking at backward mirroring (or history), to promote a sustainable green future.”💠 ✅Menno van der Hoff 💦, TripleAqua, “We want to make the CO2 system more simple by adopting scroll compressors so that it can be easier for plumbers to understand and work.”💠 Radek Hrabánek, Project Manager at SINOP, “The new beverage factory and office of SINOP still achieves heating COP of 4.8 and energy efficiency ratio (EER cooling) is obtained 3.25 even from transitioning from propane to R744 heat pump system. In addition, the system is able to do heating and cooling together.”💠 Bernhard Adler, Founder & CEO at ecop Technologies GmbH , “Rotation heat pump K7 works on a mixture of noble gases encapsulated in a rotor, reaching up to 150°C or more, since it is not limited by refrigerants and these systems are easier to handle.”💠 Michael Eckert, Kälte Eckert GmbH, “Use of a bivalent heat pump as a replacement for a liquid chiller in an existing building gives a COP of 3.88 using R717 as a refrigerant over R134a (COP = 2.55) allowing a reduction of operating cost by 27.45%,with a decrease in CO2 emission by 33.73 kg CO2e per annum.“#GoNatRefs#ATMOEurope #HeatPumps

“At AtmosZero, what we recognized as a real opportunity is to deploy an air-source steam heat pump—a fully-packaged heat pump boiler that goes directly to generating steam, just like if it were a combustion boiler. Instead of tying into waste heat or ground heat or anything else that increases the complexity of a project, we're directly sourcing heat from the ambient air outside the facility. That allows us to go towards mass manufacturing scale, which gets us to the economics that have allowed building heat pumps to be so successful.” https://lnkd.in/gwCtDjPs

Carbon Capture Supercapacitors (or cement and ink used for energy storage)A next generation of energy storage system made of cement and an ancient ink could transform homes and roads into giant batteries! As a regular reader and contributor to Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, this caught my eye (in the Independent!). Fascinating that the technology is being developed to store energy within cement, for homes and buildings equipped with solar panels that do not have access to the grid...
