Family members were concerned for the medical professional, 67, who went missing while on holiday in Greece earlier this week.

His wife, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley, raised the alarm when he didn’t return from what should have been an easy a coastal walk on Wednesday.

After a four-day search, his body was found on Sunday, with Dr Bailey Mosley issuing a devastating statement confirming his death.

She paid tribute to her ‘wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband,’ adding: ‘We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and were so happy together.

‘I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days.

‘My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It’s clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you.’
