Is Kappa Alpha Theta top tier? ›

Kappa is definitely moving up in the ranks. It is a newer house but has already established itself as a top house.

Around 15-18% of the undergraduate students at Penn State participate in Greek organizations.

A member shall meet the conditions for eligibility and qualifications to be an officer as stated in the Kappa Alpha Theta Bylaws, Article IV, Section 3, B. (1) Officers shall maintain a 3.0 semester GPA.

The other fraternity was the Pi Kappa Alpha house, with 117 active members, which makes it the largest fraternity at Penn State.

Leadership, Sisterhood, Scholarship, Service

Chapter dues for Penn State Panhellenic chapters range from approximately $300-1,100 per semester. These dues include national membership, housing, special events involvement, and other chapter specific events and fees that are incurred throughout a semester.

Interested new members must meet the following Penn State University's requirements to join a fraternity or sorority: Must have earned 14 PSU credit hours AND a 2.5 cumulative GPA OR transfer students must have 27 transfer credit hours; and.

Is Kappa Alpha Theta oldest sorority? ›

It was the first Greek-letter fraternity established for women. The fraternity (the term "sorority" had not yet been invented) was founded by four female students, Bettie Locke Hamilton, Alice Allen Brant, Bettie Tipton Lindsey, and Hannah Fitch Shaw.

About 17% of Penn State students — about 8,000 people — are involved in Greek life. Nuwer said it would be wise to bring in a neutral compliance person who isn't connected with Penn State — rather than the compliance office being within Penn State.

The sororities contribute greatly to the campus and town communities through many philanthropic activities. Each sorority chapter has an identified floor in a renovated residence hall in South Halls, with each floor housing between 26-33 students. Students are assigned to double-occupancy rooms.

University Park

The largest Penn State campus offers academics, activities, and recreation in the classic college town of State College. University Park is home to a diverse population of over 40,000 undergraduate students.

On the superficial level, top-tier sororities have members who are considered conventionally beautiful, wealthy, and socially active on campus. A survey conducted by Northwestern under the Institute of Policy Research evaluated participants' critiques and statements addressing their time in Greek life.

Honorary membership is Alpha Kappa Alpha's highest honor. Jane Addams, winner of the Nobel Peace Prize, is among the first honorary members. Eleanor Roosevelt, a former First Lady and wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, was made an honorary member.

The tier has everything to do with how picky it can be about members. A “top” tier sorority can basically pick just who they want among pledges, while a “low” tier sorority takes the leftovers.
