It's time to challenge the notion that media must choose between financial health and ethical standards. By adopting efficient models and making transparency a priority, we can steer the industry through its economic hurdles without sacrificing our foundational principles. The conventional reliance on advertising and subscriptions is no longer cutting it, failing to fully support the essence of journalism. But there's a silver lining—solutions exist outside these traditional bounds, prompting us to rethink ethical funding in media.#ethics #journalism #businessmodels House of Pitch

🌐🔍 In an online environment increasingly polluted with false information, trust in news has steadily eroded over the years. The news industry is also facing a financial crisis fueled by a loss of advertising revenue to clickbait and viral misinformation. What can be done to restore public trust and improve the financial viability of independent journalism when news dissemination is increasingly mediated by digital platforms? Digital trust initiatives—online standards and journalistic indicators that aim to identify trustworthy news outlets and content—provide one possible solution. In CIMA’s latest report, Digital Trust Initiatives: Seeking to Reward Journalistic Ethics Online, Dr. Eleonora Maria Mazzoli, researcher at the London School of Economics and Political Science, analyzes how digital trust initiatives aim to empower audiences, improve journalistic practices, and drive traffic and revenues to high-quality news. By investigating the methodologies and impacts of some of the most prominent trust initiatives, Mazzoli provides recommendations for scaling up the application of these approaches while balancing the right to free expression, particularly in developing countries and emerging democracies. 📑 Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/ed-UxNMw#MediaDev

SOCIETY THRU MEDIAMedia and culture are always interlinked with each other—media adopts a culture and vice versa. It means that society's acts depend on what they watch, hear, and listen to media in different landscapes—it's either on TV, Radio, Internet, Print, and Digital. That is why we have what we call Media Ethics, it is the goodness and the badness of the action. Media practitioners and media users must be aware of this in order for them to engage in different media platforms positively. Though it may be hurdles due to some consequences but then it is a must that we must be responsible in every action we portray. Yes, though we have this freedom of expression, we must be aware that we have these media laws that are being served in terms of everyone's privacy, peace, and power. Additionally, the Media industry does not solely move through its production. It has always been complex behind the scenes, it undergoes advertising, production, information, and financial. Which is run by experts in every field over their organizational structures. Media economics is assigned for decision making and financial necessities without the proper management of media resources it may lead to the downfall of its industry. Moreover, the media industry can be owned depending on how it is acquired, there are this conglomerates and vertical and horizontal integration. In terms of media structure, we have what we call monopoly, oligarchy, etc. Which serves as how the owner uses his power to control the market availability of their product. To conclude, as a BACOM student, the knowledge that we gain in every course week can be our weapon in dealing with people, workplace, and societal issues someday. As media helps to improve our daily living it's also important to point out and become aware of its downside. Each and every one of us can be a starting point to lessen and divert this negative impact on a positive one.©️: Google

The Dangers of Unconstrained Influence: How Social Media Fuels a Freedom from ConscienceIn the age of digital proliferation, Sam Harris's ominous observation—"We are living in a time where literally anyone … stands a chance at building a large following of people eager to celebrate a newfound freedom from conscience"—is a hard-hitting reminder of the perilous landscape we navigate daily. As an expert on social media dynamics, I argue that this unchecked capacity to build a following can endanger societal fabric through the spread of misinformation, hate speech, and ultimately, a collective moral apathy. The Erosion of Trust and AccountabilityFirstly, let's understand how corruption in leadership perpetuates this problem. When leaders act without ethical restraint, it fractures the public’s trust in institutions. Disenfranchised people then turn to alternative voices, who can often be even more corrupt or misleading. Essentially, we trade one devil for another in a misguided quest for change. The Decline of Fact-CheckingSecondly, the waning influence of traditional media has shifted the responsibility of fact-checking from journalists to the individual. In a world inundated with 'instant news,' the lines between fact and fiction blur, further enabling individuals with malicious intent to exploit the lack of scrutiny. The SolutionSo, how do we navigate this complex issue? One avenue is through institutional transparency and accountability. Measures like anti-corruption laws can restore faith in conventional leadership, thereby reducing the allure of fringe voices. On the individual level, education in media literacy and critical thinking can equip people with the tools to discern fact from fiction.Action Steps* Promote Transparency: Support policies that ensure governmental accountability.* Be Media Literate: Educate yourself on how to verify online information.* Practice Empathy: Consider the broader impact of sharing or endorsing viewpoints online. In conclusion, the democratization of influence comes with a heavy cost. To safeguard against the rise of leaders, or anyone else with a significant platform, eager to revel in a 'freedom from conscience,' we must fortify both our institutions and our individual capabilities. Let's transform our digital world into a place that prioritizes truth and mutual respect, thereby ensuring a more responsible and ethical digital citizenry. It's not just the leaders who need to change; it's all of us.

Grateful for the opportunity extended by Sharon Zohar, I recently participated in the second edition of Roundtable Resolutions. We explored the topic of "Media, Disruptive Influences, and Neutrality". This session involved thought-provoking discussions and interactions with figures from the industry, such as Nathaniel Barr, Adrian Lee, Kathryn Ann Hill, Jonathan A. Obar, and Kirstine Stewart. In today's evolving landscape, this discussion couldn't be more pertinent. The role of media, press, and digital platforms in shaping our information ecosystem is undeniable. Here are some key takeaways that merit recognition:1️⃣ Fostering media literacy: Encouraging critical thinking about what we see and read is a way to emphasize the value of truth. In an era of information overload, discernment is paramount.2️⃣ Trust is the cornerstone: The credibility of journalism hinges on the trust it commands. Without trust, the foundation of informed societies crumbles.3️⃣ The unintended consequences of online sharing: Often, well-intentioned individuals don't pause to verify the accuracy of what they share. The implications of this casual approach are profound.4️⃣ Battling misinformation: Navigating the sea of information and the influence of media platforms is a significant challenge. Are we trapped in echo chambers, or do we actively seek diverse perspectives?5️⃣ Understanding platform dynamics: People must recognize how digital platforms shape the content they consume. The algorithms and recommendations play a pivotal role in what we see and hear.In an era defined by information, understanding these facets is crucial. While there's much work ahead, we can take the first step by being accountable for our shared content and honing our ability to discern information in everything we encounter.#Media #FakeNews #Antisemitism #Journalism #News

🌐 Importance of Distinguishing Fact from Fiction in the Age of Social Media 📚🔎In today's fast-paced digital landscape, the ability to discern between facts and fiction is more crucial than ever. 🌐📣 The pervasive influence of social media and the corruption of traditional media have led to a concerning diminishment of truth and reliability. 📉⚠️It is paramount for us to cultivate a critical mindset and embrace a fact-checking culture. 🧠💡 We must actively seek credible sources and corroborate information before accepting it as truth. 🕵️♂️📚 Relying solely on headlines and superficial content perpetuates misinformation and undermines our collective understanding.Let us prioritize accuracy and integrity in our online and offline communications. Fact-checking before sharing can break the vicious cycle of spreading false narratives. 🚫🗣️🙅♀️Education plays a pivotal role in combating misinformation. Empowering individuals, especially younger generations, with media literacy skills is imperative. By equipping them with the tools to evaluate information critically, we foster a society that values truth and holds the media accountable. 🎓💪As professionals, let us take the lead in promoting factual discourse. We can counteract the spread of fiction by engaging in thoughtful conversations, questioning assumptions, and providing evidence-based perspectives. 🗣️🤝💡Now, more than ever, our ability to differentiate between fact and fiction is vital for a thriving society. Let us champion truth, elevate the standards of media integrity, and ensure that knowledge and accuracy prevail in our interconnected world. 🌍🔍💡#FactVsFiction #MediaLiteracy #CriticalThinking #SocialMediaImpact
